Lawn Mowing & Maintenance in Due West SC
Lawn care in Due West SC is straightforward in some ways and tricky in others. The town is small — a few hundred residents built around Erskine College — but the properties here are well-established, and the Centipede turf that dominates most yards needs a consistent hand to stay healthy through Zone 8a's long growing season.
Centipede grass in Due West and the broader Abbeville County area thrives in the sandy loam and Piedmont clay soils typical of this part of SC. It's a low-input grass but it doesn't forgive being scalped. We mow it at 1.5 to 2 inches during the summer, let it come back full after a wet stretch, and avoid overworking it in the shoulder seasons when it's stressed by heat or dry spells.
Campus-adjacent residential properties often have mature hardwoods close to the house — oaks, maples, and pecans that drop debris and create shaded patches where Centipede thins out. We work around them carefully and flag anything that might benefit from a soil test or a selective overseeding approach come fall.

Erskine College Town Lawns & Abbeville County Service
Due West is one of those SC towns that barely shows up on maps but has real community character. Erskine College anchors the town and the residential streets around it have a settled, historic feel — older homes, defined lots, and lawns that have been growing in the same soil for decades.
That kind of established turf is usually a good thing. Centipede that's been in place for 15 or 20 years has deep roots and good drought tolerance — it just needs proper mowing height, occasional fertilization, and attention to weed encroachment from the edges. We see a lot of dollarweed and sedge working in from fence lines and low spots, especially after a wet spring.
Fire ants are present throughout Abbeville County and Due West is no exception. Sandy soil pockets and disturbed areas near tree roots are typical mound sites. We treat them directly and recommend broadcast programs when colonies are spread across the yard.
We're on a small lot near the college and I'd been putting off calling a lawn service for years. These guys came out, gave me a fair price, and the Centipede has never looked this even and clean. They also caught a fire ant mound I hadn't noticed by the back steps — handled it same day.
